Understanding search techniques

NESTING uses a combination of Boolean operators to achieve a very specific search.

The OR operators and keywords are grouped together in brackets to indicate to the database to search for these keywords first and then combine the two sets together.

Examples:

So (education OR training) AND (colleges OR universities) will retrieve the following combinations:

  • education and colleges

  • education and universities

  • training and colleges

  • training and universities
